How Do I Factory Reset My Scout Bike?

This Factory reset process is for Scout Bike. For Scout Travel, please head here.

To correctly remove the Scout Bike from your phone - if transferring to another user or moving your Scout Bike to a new phone - or if a fresh start is needed for some other reason, follow the process below. If you are having trouble with your Scout Travel but are unsure of whether or not to perform a reset, please reach out to our customer service team prior to attempting this process and we will be happy to assist and confirm if this is the best course of action.

If your Scout cannot be disarmed and you believe a factory reset is required, please reach out to our customer service team for assistance.

Please follow the below process precisely to factory reset your Scout Bike. Failure to follow this process as outlined will result in a failed reset attempt, signaled by a either a dull two beep tone, or a three beep tone where the third beep is of a differing pitch. If this happens, please begin again from step 3.

  1. Remove the Scout from phones Bluetooth device list

    A
. Open iOS->Settings->Bluetooth, and find the Scout connection. Select the Image 1 of 1 marker next to the connection. If you have more than one Scout, move to a position where only the Scout you would like to remove is in range and shown as Connected.

    B. Select Forget This Device.

  2. Remove the Scout from the Knog app

    A. Open the Knog app, and remove the Scout you wish to reset by clicking on the Scouts device settings, and then Remove at the bottom of the options list.

  3. Remove Scout from Find My Network

    A. Open the Find My app, and select the Scout you would like to remove.

    B. Scroll down, and select the Remove Item option and remove the Scout. The Knog Scout is no longer registered with Find My after this step.

  4. Factory Reset the Scout

    A.
Turn the Scout upside down and place on an horizontal surface.

    B. Connect the Scout to power via the USB-C port and at the same time, press and hold the button. Ensure that the Scout remains upside down and on a flat surface during this step.

    C. Continue to hold the button for 10 seconds, until 3 long beeps are heard. If you hear any other tone or melody, this will indicate an unsuccessful reset and you will need to repeat from the beginning of step 3. A dull two beep tone, or a three beep tone where the third beep is of a differing pitch indicates that the reset was not successful.

    D. After hearing the correct tone of three long identical beeps, you can now set the Scout up again as a new device as outlined in the user guide.

Note: The process of connecting the USB-C cable and pressing the button must be performed at almost the exact same time for the reset to be successful, and so it can be common that a few attempts may be necessary to hear the three long beeps indicating a successful reset.

Some additional tips with the reset process if the Scout is making a tone other than three long identical beeps at the end of the reset:

  • Make sure that the Scout has been placed upside down on a flat level surface before connecting the power cable during the reset (it must stay upside down and flat during the entire reset process).
  • Pressing and holding the button just a split second after inserting the cable generally results in a successful reset.
  • Ensure the charging cable you are using is connected to power - a brand name wall charger ( such as a USB-C MacBook charger) works best as some computer USB sockets and power banks may not be compatible and will not allow for a successful reset.
